Statement from Joe Tate, State Representative candidate for Michigan’s 2nd House District

Detroit, MI – At the conclusion of the August 7th Michigan primary election, Joe Tate, won the 2nd State House District Democratic nomination in a seven-way race. The Detroit resident will face the Republican nominee, John Palffy, during the November 6th Michigan general election. At the completion of the primary race, Tate, an economic development professional, issued the following statement:

“First off, I would like to thank everyone who committed their time and treasure to this race, we would not have been successful without a selfless team effort. Additionally, I would like to praise the effort of fellow Democratic candidates in the 2nd House District race -- it takes tremendous courage and effort to run for office at any level. I look forward to learning and working with them up to and through November.

We began a journey of service 235 days ago. During that time, we set out to listen to residents of the 2nd House District by knocking on doors, attending community meetings, and making numerous phone calls. Residents shared many challenges, yet realize the opportunities ahead far outweigh them because of the strength of our community.

The government’s sole focus should be improving the quality of life of the people it serves in a sustainable and inclusive fashion. Knowing this, I am ready to roll up my sleeves with my future Democrat colleagues around a collective vision focused on finding and implementing solutions that support our fellow Michiganders."
